It’s hard to pick – and everyone is going to have a different answer. But to take a stab, who were the best players from each Cork Premier Senior HC team in 2024?

Bishopstown: Colm O’Driscoll

There isn’t anyone that really stands out too much from Bishopstown, though Brian and Colm O’Driscoll are worth mentioning. The latter takes it as I feel he was one of the Bishopstown players who seemed to be involved in a lot of what they did right.

Blackrock: Alan Connolly

Hardly needs an introduction – 5-32 over the course of five matches is extremely impressive. Connolly was the star of the show.

Charleville: Tim Hawe

Another outrageous scoring return, it’s impossible not to go with Hawe given his 7-7 and for his Rearden’s All-Star. Was Charleville’s best forward by a longshot.

Douglas: Shane Kingston

It’s hard not to go with Kingston given how instrumental he is to this Douglas team. Any success they have he’s usually central to it – given his pace, work ethic and scoring ability.

Erin’s Own: Cian O’Connor

A superb defensive showing across the three group games from O’Connor stood out, though Erin’s Own were balanced and never relied too much on one player.

Fr O’Neill’s: Declan Dalton

The sheer impact and presence Dalton brings to Fr O’Neill’s counts for something. More so when you watch him play and see how incredible he is on the ball and the threat he poses for any opposition.

Imokilly: Daire O’Leary

There are so many different names applicable here – but for me it has to be Daire O’Leary, though Jack Leahy certainly deserves a mention.

The Watergrasshill man was on another level this year, and a brick wall in defence.

Kanturk: Brian O’Sullivan

A superb season from the former Cork U20 as he hit 0-30 in total but was outstanding in midfield. His movement off the ball and contribution in build-up play really stood out for the north Cork side.

Midleton: Conor Lehane

It couldn’t be anyone else – though Eoin Moloney was close. Another ridiculously impressive campaign for Lehane, in every game he was the most prominent forward for Midleton.

Newcestown: Colm Dineen

A season characterised by hard work and determination, a couple of four-point games for the Newcestown forward means he takes the crown for the PSHC’s sole Carbery side.

Newtownshandrum: Tim O’Mahony

Another outstanding season for O’Mahony – he did what he does best. One of the most physically imposing players, Tim was outstanding for Newtown in their run to the quarters.

Sarsfields: Luke Elliott

Elliott was immense for Sars for the second year running, and again like O’Mahony, his presence in defence made a huge difference to his club. It was a year where Sars never relied on one individual, and they’ve shown that since going onto the Munster championship.

St Finbarr’s: William Buckley

Again, like with Bishopstown and Douglas – it’s hard to choose. It was a disappointing season for the Barrs, no doubt. But William Buckley was certainly a bright spark in all of that, with some excellent performances. He finished with 2-6 in the three games.
