The Co-op SuperStores Cork JBHC semi-final between Aghabullogue and Kilbrittain must be contested again following a hearing on Thursday night.

Last Sunday’s original fixture at Newcestown was recorded as a 2-12 to 1-13 win for Kilbrittain and the schedule for this weekend showed them to be taking on Fr O’Neills – who had beaten St Finbarr’s in the other semi-final – on Sunday at 3.15pm in Páirc Uí Rinn.

However, Aghabullogue had concerns regarding two instances of score-keeping. While the half-time score was initially thought to be level – 2-6 to 1-9 – the scoreboard was ordered by the referee to be adjusted for the beginning of the second half as 2-7 to 1-8 in Kilbrittain’s favour.

Then, with time almost up and the general consensus being that Kilbrittain led by a point, Aghabullogue free-taker Aodhán Healy was about to take a free that could have levelled the game only to be informed that two points separated the sides. The Coachford side were forced to go for a goal that did not materialise and so Kilbrittain held out.

However, following an objection to the result by Aghabullogue, Thursday night’s hearing has led to the Competitions Control Committee (CCC) of the county board to determine that the original result be voided and the game played again.

The match will now take place in the slot that had been set aside for the final, in Páirc Uí Rinn on Sunday with a 3.15pm throw-in time.

As a result, the final has gone back a fortnight to the weekend of December 6-8, with Páirc Uí Rinn provisionally assigned as the venue.
