Camogie: Courcey Rovers beat Barrs to win Lillie Grant title
Deirdre Carey, daughter of Lilly Grant, presents her mother's cup to Courcey Rovers captain Isobel Lordan.
Courcey Rovers took the SE Systems Junior Lillie Grant Camogie title after a close battle with St Finbarr's in Castle Road.
In a closely found opening half, the sides were level at the break, St Finbarr’s 1-0 Courcey Rovers 0-3.
Emma O'Donovan gave St Finbarr’s an early lead with a goal eight minutes in but Courceys landed three points to tie it up after a low-scoring opening 30 minutes
They hit the front with three points with Ursula Quinn, Liz Minihane, Aine O'Donoghue and Lilly Murphy to the fore.
The Barrs pressed hard and it took solid defending to keep them at bay as the more battle-hardened Courcey Rovers side showed their experience.
It took a double save from Courceys goalkeeper Ciara Hayes 10 minutes from full time to deny St Finbarr's an equaliser.
As the sides battled hard, their defence stood firm under huge pressure and a Sinead Hayes goal proved critical.

After a contest where both defences stood firm despite being under huge pressure, Courcey Rovers' Liz Minihane was named The Echo Player of the Match.
