Boherbue advance to the McCarthy Insurance IAFC semi-final with a hard-fought but well-deserved win over fellow North Cork side Glanworth.

For the victors, David O’Connor was a constant threat all game with Gerry O’Sullivan and John Corkery also showing their wares. O’Connor bagged 1-8 on the day – his goal on 58 minutes ending this one as a contest – his earlier interventions also key to the win.

For Glanworth, midfielders Darragh O’Brien and David Pyne shared eight points between them with Stephen Condon and Michael Sheehan bagging a pair of points apiece on a day that Pa O’Brien’s side were marginally second best.

A testy affair from the off saw both Boherbue and Glanworth push most of the right notes from the opening play.

Two minutes in, O’Connor bagged the first score for the Duhallow men, followed shortly by their second, third and fourth - Corkery and O’Sullivan on target.

Glanworth finally got off the mark with a superb score from midfielder O’Brien, Corkery hit back as the game took on a nice pace.

A brace of frees from Pyne kept Glanworth in touch before a real beauty of a point from Sheehan cut the gap to three.

Glanworth keeper Ciaran Cotter had a moment to forget soon after when a kick-out went straight to Dan Sheehan who made no mistake. Credit to Cotter he atoned later with a huge save from O’Connor and Boherbue went in leading by six 1-9 to 0-6.

The second half saw no let-up in intensity with the challenges flying in from all quarters – Michael O’Connor seeing red for his second yellow on 37 minutes.

Glanworth pushed on and had the next four scores but Boherbue had plenty in reserve and saw this one out comfortably, O’Connor major late on the icing on a well-deserved cake.
