Cork boxer Cathal Crowley extended his unbeaten run in the professional ranks in Birmingham.

He bested English-based fighter Iranian Bahadur Karami on points in a Super Middleweight fight at the Excelsior Sports Club.

Crowley was thrown a curveball two days before the fight as his original opponent Mike Byles pulled out. Karami was drafted in as a replacement.

This certainly didn’t affect Crowley as he put in another eye-catching performance by winning on points in a unanimous decision.

He was relieved to get the win against a tough opponent and will now take a deserved holiday after months of hard work in the gym.

"I was happy with my performance on the night against a very tough opponent and I was confident I was ahead on the cards at the end of every round, so I just listened to my corner and done what they were telling me.

"The change of opponent didn’t really affect me as I was just focused on what I had to do to improve. I accepted the original opponent Byles on two week's notice so when that changed I wasn’t really bothered as I just wanted to get into the ring and put on a show for the fans.

"It was a high-paced action fight, but I was in control the whole time landing the bigger punches and dictating the pace and that put Karami on the back foot.

I felt very good in there as I got my timing right from the start and was letting my hands go."

The fight was originally scheduled for six rounds, however, on the day of the weigh-in it was changed to four rounds.

"I was fresh after the four rounds were completed but I could have boxed another four rounds no problem as I had trained for my original opponent, which was scheduled for six rounds.

STYLE

"Karami couldn’t do the six rounds for some reason, but I just had to concentrate on what was in front of me on the night to get the job done and I think I done that in style on the night.

"My immediate plans for now is, I’m gonna be going to Spain for a couple of days for a well-deserved holiday, but after that I’ll be straight back in the gym next Monday and hopefully be out again at least once but hopefully twice before the end of the year.

"The Super Middleweight division in Ireland is full of great boxers at the moment with Kevin Cronin, Jamie Morrissey, Emmet Brennan and our own Tommy Hyde so I would be excited to fight any of them to be honest."
