Two Cork film festivals are sharing in Coimisiún na Meán funding of over €300,000 for media sector events and activities across Ireland for 2026.

The funded media events on Leeside include the Cork International Film festival, which will receive €10,000, and the Fastnet Film Festival in Schull, which receives €4,00.

The funding has been awarded under Coimisiún na Meán’s sponsorship scheme, which supports media related events and activities that align with the Coimisiún na Meán strategy statement, along with their aim of developing a thriving media landscape in Ireland.

Other events that are to receive funding include the Dingle Animation Festival, the Young Journalist Ireland Awards, the Headline Mental Health Media Awards, GAZE Film Festival, the Women in Film and Television International Summit, and the Craol Community Radio Achievement Awards.

Coimisiún na Meán media development commissioner Rónán Ó Domhnaill said that the funding allows them to support media organisations to host events and activities “that reflect the diversity of Irish society and highlight the creativity and innovation in Irish media today.”

“We believe that a vibrant, well funded media sector that is sustainable, pluralistic and participative ultimately benefits Irish audiences of all ages and interests, including the Irish language, and we look forward to seeing the range and variety of events and activities as they take place over the course of the coming year.”
