Limerick native Johnny Murphy has been chosen to referee the All-Ireland SHC final between Cork and Clare on Sunday week, July 21.
The Ballylanders clubman refereed last year’s All-Ireland Club SHC final while in 2021 he did the Leinster senior final and the All-Ireland U20 decider. In 2018, he took charge of the All-Ireland minor final.
This is his first senior final – the presence of his home county in the fixture for five of the six years where he has been on the national panel has ruled him out.
Murphy’s last championship game refereeing Cork was the one-point defeat to Clare at Cusack Park in Ennis in May of last year, while he was also the man in the middle for the Allianz HL Division 1 Group A loss to Kilkenny at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in February.
In the current championship, Murphy refereed two Leinster SHC games, Wexford v Dublin and Dublin v Kilkenny, as well as the Clare-Wexford clash in the All-Ireland quarter-final, while he officiated in the league final as Clare beat Kilkenny.
Liam Gordon of Galway will be the stand-by referee as well as serving as a linesman along with Michael Kennedy of Tipperary. The sideline official will be Dublin’s Chris Mooney.
Murphy’s umpires will be Ballylanders colleagues Micheál Meade, James Hickey and Jimmy Barry Murphy and Garryspillane’s Andy Dooley.
His line umpires on the day will be Galway’s Liam Gordonand Tipperary’s Michael Kennedy,
