CARRIGALINE will look to keep hold of top spot in Division 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Football League this weekend.
Michael Meaney’s side, who were relegated from the premier senior football grade last season, have enjoyed a marvellous start to this year with eight points from five league games. They were awesome in taking down St Finbarr’s by seven points last time out and they now welcome Nemo Rangers to Carrigaline on Sunday.
This has all the makings of a cracker with Nemo just a point behind Carrigaline. Both have played five matches and after this one, just three games will be remaining in the league.
Douglas and Newcestown get the Division 1 action underway tomorrow. Douglas are second from bottom with four points from five games while their opposition are two points ahead of them.

Sunday’s action is a treat. Carrigaline and Nemo has been mentioned but there are also three other fascinating contests from the top-tier of the league pyramid.
Both sides will meet again later on in the year in the Premier SFC group stage.
Brian Roche’s St Finbarr’s are in mid-table as they travel down to West Cork to meet a Castlehaven side with six points from five games. Seanie Cahalane’s outfit defeated Cill na Martra away from home on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-11 last time out which would have been a big confidence booster.
Speaking of Cill na Martra, the Muskerry side have five points after six games as they travel down to Rosscarbery to take on Carbery Rangers. Seamus Hayes’ side were well below their best in a heavy 13-point defeat away to Newcestown two weeks ago but they still sit in mid-table with five points after five games coming into this one.
In Division 2, outright leaders for many weeks Dohenys, are on a two-game losing streak, as they face St Michael’s away this evening. The Dunmanway based side have six games played and have eight points, but their opposition are level on points with them and have played one game fewer.
Tomorrow, Clonakilty will be looking to continue their 100% start to the season when they welcome Fermoy to the Brewery Town.

There are many very interesting encounters happening in the many other divisions. In the third-tier, a big Duhallow derby this evening as Rockchapel entertain Newmarket. Both sides are deadlocked in mid-table with five points after five games.
Bishopstown can continue their fine start under new manager Mark Driscoll when they host Nemo Rangers’ second string tomorrow. The Town can move into the promotion spots with a win or a draw for less than 24 hours at least. They have picked up six points from five games so far. Elevation to Division 2 would be a huge step in the right direction for this young Bishopstown team.
