Eoghan Farrell fires St Peter’s Community School, Passage West to U19 Schools Cup
St Peter’s CS, Passage West, claimed the U19 Senior Munster FAI Schools Soccer John Murphy Cup title.
EOGHAN Farrell was the hero for St Peter’s Community School, Passage West as his hat-trick helped his team defeat Limerick side, Coláiste Mhuire Askeaton 5-1 in the U19 Senior Munster FAI Schools John Murphy Cup final at The Manor Fields in Adare.
It was the second meeting in successive seasons between these two teams at this stage of the competition, and the Cork side showed no fear on the day.
St Peter’s – who were looking at avenging their defeat in the 2023 final – were on the front foot from the whistle and they saw a number of chances go just wide.
Then AJ Moroney hit the back of the net for Coláiste Mhuire Askeaton and the Limerick school took the lead.
St Peter’s did not panic in their push for an equaliser, they continued to get forward and create openings for themselves in the final third. Their Limerick opponents held firm until a Kristian O’Callaghan cross was sent into the box in the final minutes of the first half and Farrell turned this in.
The Cork school played with a new level of intensity after the break, something that was clearly influenced by the memories of defeat from last year’s final.
Farrell’s second was a rocket into the far corner, and by completing his hat-trick he made it 3-1.
Colaiste Mhuire Askeaton tried to get back in the game by bringing on Brooklyn Delahunty and Zach Birdthistle, and the changes were in vain as St Peter’s went on to score two more times during the time left to play in Limerick.
Liam Quinn and Scott Moynihan got the final two goals of the afternoon, and St Peter’s won the John Murphy Cup.
Their manager Kit O’Keeffe praised the standard of football on display after the full-time whistle and he congratulated Colaiste Mhuire Askeaton on their Munster campaign this year.
"I understand the heartache of losing a Munster final. My team gave an excellent performance, filled with hard work and determination.”
