Hemmings expresses an official interest in purchasing Turner's Cross from the Munster Football Association

GROVE MOORE (Preston owner Trevor Hemmings' company) have expressed an interest in purchasing Turner’s Cross according to the secretary of the Munster Football Association, Ger Delaney.

Preston owner Trevor Hemmings is very interested in purchasing Cork City Football Club and he has also enquired about purchasing Turner’s Cross from the M.F.A.

The Association are set to have their next bi-monthly meeting in March and while they have no plans to bring this forward, Delaney told the Echo that the potential sale of the stadium will be discussed.

“They have expressed an interest but that is all they have done,” he confirmed.

“We have to decide as a council whether we are or we aren’t going to enter talks with them about it.

“Nothing has happened since they expressed an interest in the last couple of weeks. 

"We as a council usually meet every two months, there is 13 leagues represented from right around the province so there will be about 20 people at the meetings.

“We will discuss this then, we will get people's opinions on it and we will see where we go from there.

“In terms of myself, I couldn’t say whether or not I would or wouldn’t be in favour of it. 

"There has been no hard and fast discussions or anything so all the council will be doing is agreeing whether, in principle, we should meet with them to try and do the deal or not.” 

The stadium itself is the home of football in Cork. 

As well as hosting the League of Ireland club, it also holds hundreds of local finals - from Schoolboys/girls to youths and senior adults - every year and Delaney admitted that makes it difficult to put a value on the venue.

“I haven’t the foggiest (on what it is worth). 

"It might be worth millions and millions to some people and it might be worth nothing to someone else,” he concluded.
