Fine Gael councillor Joe Kavanagh recently proposed that Cork City Council install adequate public lighting at the car park at Frank O’Connor Library in Mayfield.

He said: “This recently resurfaced car park has currently very poor-quality public lighting and in the interest of public safety, I ask that the public lighting in the car park be significantly upgraded to an acceptable level.”

The council said that an initial cost estimate for the installation of just two new public lighting columns at this site, including ducting, cabling, chambers, ESB application etc is approximately €20,000.

“Currently, there is no scope within the existing public lighting budget to facilitate these works. Funding would need to be sought for this project in 2027,” the council said.
