A familiar face in Ballincollig has been recognised for his commitment to customers, colleagues, and the local community.

Anthony O’Donoghue, store manager of Specsavers Ballincollig, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Dame Mary Perkins Award for Outstanding Clinical Customer Care.

Mr O’Donoghue joined the Ballincollig store as an optical assistant when it first opened its doors in 2020.

The award celebrates exceptional customer service, and Mr O’Donoghue was recognised for the care, patience and personal attention he gives to customers, as well as the support and guidance he provides to colleagues.

Speaking to The Echo, he said he was “absolutely overwhelmed and incredibly proud” to win the award.

“To think that I joined the Ballincollig store as an optical assistant when we opened in 2020 and have now received an award like this is something I never expected,” he said.

“Customer service has always been really important to me.

“I think sometimes it’s the small things that make the biggest difference – taking the time to listen, finding a solution when something isn’t straightforward, or simply making someone feel looked after.”

Mr O’Donoghue said he was lucky to have “such a brilliant team around me” and he thanked his colleagues for their support and guidance over the years.

“This award means a huge amount to me, and I’m delighted to be able to share it with everyone at Specsavers Ballincollig,” he said.

Mr O’Donoghue was presented with the award by Specsavers co-founders Doug and Dame Mary Perkins on stage at the Specsavers professional advancement conference at the ICC Birmingham.
