Cork schoolteacher's new picture book reminds us of nature's magic
"We all grow up learning that bears hibernate. But not many of us know that snails hibernate," said author and teacher Jess Lynch.
A Cork author has published her debut picture book for children which celebrates the rhythms of nature and the quiet wonder of the winter months.
In , Innishannon-based primary school teacher Jess Lynch outlines the journey of various animals as they prepare for winter.
Jess said that she wanted to write a story about animals native to, or living in, Ireland, with the book illustrated by Monika Pollak.
"We all grow up learning that bears hibernate. But not many of us know that snails hibernate and other animals at our doorstep.
“There’s something magical about nature for children and adults. It fills us with wonder.
"Also, as a mother of three young boys, sleep is a foreign concept at times. So, the idea of hibernating for an entire winter is a magical one to me!
“Monika’s illustrations are stunning and surpassed all my expectations of what the book would look like."
