Yellow weather high temperature warning issued for Cork

A status yellow high temperature warning for Cork this weekend has been issued by Met Éireann.
The warning, issued this morning, comes into effect today at 1pm and will be in place until 7am on Sunday.
The national forecaster warned of maximum temperatures in excess of 27 degrees celcius combined with overnight temperature minimums in excess of 15 degrees.
Temperatures in Cork city are set to reach 28 degrees this afternoon, and up to 30 degrees tomorrow afternoon, while not going below 20 degrees at night.
Potential impacts include water safety issues due to increased use of lakes/beaches, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, heat stress and the possibility of forest fires.
The warning covers Cork as well as Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, and Wexford.
The conditions come as a ridge of high pressure is currently situated over Ireland, extending from an anticyclone over the Azores, is bringing dry, settled and sunny conditions.
A few heavy or thundery showers are possible in southern parts of Ireland over the weekend, though none are currently forecast in Cork city – Met Éireann does not predict any rain until Tuesday.
The public is advised to stay in the shade, avoid going out or partaking in strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of fluids and apply UVA and UVB sunscreen to skin that is not covered, factor 30+ for adults and 50+ for children.
