Charges of burgling two business premises in Cork city centre and shoplifting at a third premises have been brought against a young man who has been remanded in custody for four weeks.

Kalem Murphy, aged 24, of Cork Simon Community, is charged with carrying out a burglary at Herlihy’s Centra on Patrick Steet, Cork, on April 21, where it is alleged that at 6.40am he allegedly forced open glass doors, went behind the counter to the till area, and left when approached by a member of staff.

It is alleged that, the following day, he burgled The Pavillion in Cork city centre. 

In that case, it is alleged that he went to an upper floor and stole property including two bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

In a third case, it is alleged that on April 17 he stole two bottles of Calvin Klein fragrance from Chemist Warehouse on Cornmarket St.

Sergeant John Dineen said directions from the DPP were awaited on these cases, but that files were being assembled to send to the director’s office.

Frank Buttimer, solicitor, said Mr Murphy was consenting to a four-week remand in custody to allow for progress.
