Cork Camogie: Cloughduv defeat Glen Rovers after six-goal thriller

Cloughduv recorded their first win of the SE Systems Cork Senior Camogie Championship, as they defeated Glen Rovers in a six-goal thriller at Douglas.
This result leaves Cloughduv tied with Éire Óg but Glen Rovers are propping up the table on zero points.
The opening half was evenly contested until Cloughduv scored 1-2 without reply approaching the break. This proved decisive. With the strong wind at their backs for the second half, Cloughduv dominated proceedings territorially, but conceded two goals.
Glen Rovers made the better start as Emma Akinkuolie and Beth Coughlan each scored unanswered points.
Cloughduv opened their account with a pointed free by Lisa Lynch. Cloughduv continued to have Glen Rovers pinned back and they took the lead when Aileen Corkery set up Niamh McNabola for the game’s opening goal. Emma Murphy reduced the margin to the minimum with her first pointed free, but Cloughduv tagged on three points without reply.
Emma Murphy converted her second free. In the 20th minute, Leanne O’Sullivan sent Emma Murphy on a solo run, to drill home Glen Rovers’ first goal, which levelled matters at 1-4 apiece.
Emily O’Meara put Glen Rovers back in the lead with a point from play, but Cloughduv responded with two unanswered points. Deep into stoppage time, Ciara Kelleher capitalised on a defensive error by Glen Rovers to pounce for Cloughduv’s second goal. This left Cloughduv leading 2-6 to 1-5 at the break.
Glen Rovers made the better start to the second half as Akinkuolie and Leanne O’Sullivan each added unanswered points, while Ciara Kelleher replied with one for Cloughduv.
Glen Rovers tied the scores once again as Walsh’s free set up Akinkuolie for their second goal in the 42nd minute.
Cloughduv had Glen Rovers on the back foot for most of the second half, courtesy of three unanswered points, including a free. Walsh converted two frees, before Lisa Lynch added her second point for Cloughduv.
Amy Sheppard got Cloughduv’s third goal on the 53rd minute, which was followed by three unanswered points.
Tara McCarthy was credited with a late goal for Glen Rovers.
