Cork man fined after smashing city centre bar window while drunk

Gardaí were called to Rearden’s on Washington St when a drunken man smashed a front window at the premises.
Sergeant John Dineen said the incident occurred at around 5.30pm on February 4.
Garda Adrian Murphy was on duty on Washington St when he received a call that a man had broken the front window of Rearden’s.
“On viewing CCTV footage, Garda Murphy observed the male breaking the window. Garda Murphy gave out a description of the male. A person fitting the description was stopped by gardaí on Grand Parade,” said Sgt Dineen.
“Garda Murphy went to Grand Parade and identified the male that was stopped as the one who broke the window of the bar.
“This man, Cormac Fitzpatrick, was intoxicated and had slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol from him. Garda Murphy cautioned and arrested Mr Fitzpatrick, and he was conveyed to the Bridewell Garda Station, where he was later charged.”
The defendant has pleaded guilty at Cork District Court to the charges of causing criminal damage to the pub and being drunk and a danger.
Sgt Dineen said the defendant had one previous conviction for causing criminal damage and 60 for being drunk and a danger.
Judge Miriam Walsh was told that the accused, Cormac Fitzpatrick, aged 45, of Cork Simon Community, had gathered €500 compensation to pay for the damage.
The judge dealt with the offending by way of fines of €250 for the criminal damage and €100 for being drunk and a danger.
