Before We Die campaign to hold information meeting in Cork next week

Cork woman Sinead McGrath, a member of the Before We Die campaign, with her sons Lee and Alex.

An information evening in Clayton Silversprings Hotel in Tivoli for the Before We Die group will take place Thursday May 21 from 7pm to 9pm.

This session is open to all carers and supporters of people with intellectual disabilities, and will be attended by Tony Murray, the founder of the group for parents of children with intellectual disabilities.

More than 2,000 adults with intellectual disabilities in Ireland are still living with parents aged over 70, and their families say there is no plan for what happens in the future.

Attendees can hear directly from the campaign founder and committee members about the group’s goals, ask questions, understand how to contact your local TD and push for action as well as connect with others in Cork.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Our mission is that every son and daughter with an intellectual disability in Ireland has a safe, appropriate, supported home in their community before their parents are gone.

“We will hold government accountable until supported housing is delivered as a fundamental right.”

Places are limited, and you can register at https://www.beforewedie.ie/events.

Contact Sinead McGrath on 087 966 3465 or email sineads3.mcgrath@gmail.com for local enquiries.
