The retiring Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross Paul Colton, who married David and Victoria Beckham, said he still keeps in contact with the famous couple who sent him flowers on their 25 year wedding anniversary.

Bishop Colton made the headlines in 1999 when he married 'Posh and Becks' at Luttrellstown Castle in Co Dublin.

On his relationship with the Beckhams after their wedding day, Bishop Colton told The Echo: “On and off over the years they've kept in touch and I've been to visit them since.

“When they were 25 years married in 2024 on their wedding anniversary, they sent me flowers. Which I thought was a lovely touch.

At the time of the wedding, David Beckham was one of the most famous footballers in the world at Manchester United, with Victoria rising to fame in the 1990s as a member of the pop group the Spice Girls.

Reflecting back on marrying one of the most famous celebrity couples in the globe in the Beckham’s, Bishop Colton added:

“So as I see it, I did my job as the local priest, I officiated at their marriage.

“There was a lot of fuss. But at the end of the day, my experience was of a young couple who I'd come to know, who wanted to get married.

“I always say that people go to a lot of trouble for their wedding according to their means. Some people have a bigger budget than others.

“But at the end of the day, I was experiencing a young couple in love. They already had a baby. I encouraged them to bring Brooklyn to the wedding and they did.

“I was working in West Dublin at the time and they had decided they wanted their wedding and wedding reception in my parish.

“So I was approached, like any priest is approached, by a couple who want to get married in his parish.

“I engaged with them. As it happened, we had it all planned and sorted in 1998, we had it all done and dusted.

“I'd gone over to Manchester to meet them and to plan the ceremony and everything."
