A council spokesperson said the project is on course for substantial completion by February, 2027.

The Lehenaghmore Rd improvement scheme is on track to be delivered in budget and on time, with a council spokesperson saying the project is on course for substantial completion by February, 2027.

The spokesperson confirmed that essential preliminary works, including site setup, service connections, ground radar surveys, and the mapping of underground utility services are now complete.

Works started on the Lehenaghmore Rd Improvement Scheme in August 2025.

The project, funded by the National Transport Authority, starts at Tramore Rd Roundabout and takes in the L2455 Pouladuff Rd, extending southwards to Barrett’s Junction.

It then follows the L2454 Togher Rd from Barrett’s Junction northwest and downhill near to Route 14 bar.

Once completed, the scheme will deliver new footpaths and safe pedestrian crossings, safer roads for motorists with improved junctions and sightlines, along with new public transport and cycle facilities, reducing the need for car travel in the area.

There also will be improved public lighting and traffic calming measures.

The progress update has been welcomed by Sinn Féin councillor for the South West ward Joe Lynch, who said the local community has been waiting for years for the works to take place.

“The response to a recent council motion of mine on the topic sets out that the project is currently on budget and is in course to be completed on time,” said Mr Lynch.

“My party colleague, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire and I have met with the contractors, Glas Engineering, and continue to raise matters related to the project with Cork City Council on a regular basis.

“We look forward to continued progress being made in the time ahead.”
