It was a proud occasion for Cork-based singer Myles Gaffney on Sunday, as he performed his tribute song in memory of the late footballer Liam Miller ahead of Celtic’s Scottish Premiership match against Falkirk in Glasgow.
With the anniversary of the Ovens native and former Ireland international upcoming this week, Celtic invited Mr Gaffney over to play a tribute to Liam Miller ahead of Sunday’s game.
Mr Gaffney wrote a song in tribute to Liam Miller to mark the high profile memorial match held at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in September 2018, which featured legends from Miller’s former clubs in Celtic and Manchester United.
He told The Echo how much of an honour it was to be invited by Celtic to pay tribute to his fellow Cork man at the iconic Celtic Park stadium.
“It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and I took it with open arms. We went over on Saturday and did the business then on the pitch on Sunday.
“They had images of Liam on the big screens. It got an unbelievable reception.
“I couldn’t believe it myself. The people gave us great attention and respect while the song was being played.
“It was a great Cork connection and it was great to represent Cork.”
