A 34-year-old man with 88 criminal convictions lifted, to a CCTV camera, the bottle of vodka which he was stealing from a supermarket in one of his latest thefts.
Judge Mary Dorgan imposed a total jail term of four months on Padraig Daly of 19 Deanwood Avenue, Togher Road, Cork, at Cork District Court.
The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to more thefts – three of them carried out in the same store – when he appeared before the court.
Sergeant Aisling Murphy said: “Padraig Daly entered Lidl in Togher and took a €20 bottle of vodka from the shelf and walked through the checkouts, passing all points of payment.
He carried out three thefts of Four Loko alcohol cans and groceries at Whyte’s, Centra, Doughcloyne, Togher, on September 30 and again on October 4 and 5. The theft at Lidl was carried out on October 11.
Sgt Murphy said the accused man had 88 previous convictions and that 16 of them were for theft.
Eddie Burke solicitor said the defendant was serving a sentence due to be completed by February 10 2026.
