A community-owned pool and leisure centre in West Cork has received a €10,000 Corporate Social Responsibility contribution from a leading engineering company with bases in Cork and Canada.

Waterman Tecsar Engineering Alliance made the donation to The Wild Atlantic Pool and Fitness Centre at Baltimore to help upgrade their leisure facilities. The centre is run by the community and has been fundraising to replace their jacuzzi to bring relaxation and wellness to the community.

The facility, training ground of the first man to complete the Oceans Seven challenge, Ballydehob’s Steve Redmond, also provides swimming lessons to children, is a place for seniors to stay active and supports local fitness goals.

Business lead at Waterman Tecsar Engineering Alliance, Conor MacSweeney said: “My parents were both born and raised in Cork, moved to Canada and started Tecsar Engineering 45 years ago.

“We have always had a strong connection with West Cork. My parents spend a lot of time in the area now that they have retired. We are delighted to lead the corporate social responsibility contribution of €10,000 to the Wild Atlantic Pool Community Fund drive.

“This initiative reflects our shared values and we hope it will go a long way in supporting the local community while strengthening Waterman Tecsar’s link to the Cork and West Cork’s community.

“We feel it’s important for companies like us to support the wider community by giving back where possible. We wish the community and the centre every success in the future.”

Speaking at the donation handover, Charlotte Wright, centre co-ordinator at The Wild Atlantic Pool & Fitness Centre said: “We are thrilled with the donation from Waterman Tescar Engineering Alliance.

“The centre means a lot to the community and every penny will go to upgrading the facilities here.”
