Met Éireann has issued status yellow rain and wind warnings for four counties, including Cork, this week.
A yellow rain warning has been issued for Cork from 11am on Thursday morning until 8pm that evening.
Cork will also be under a status yellow wind warning on Thursday. This will be in effect from 11am until 11pm, with Met Éireann predicting very strong and gusty southerly winds with gales on coasts.
Kerry, Wexford and Waterford are also to be placed under status yellow weather warnings this coming Thursday.
Possible impacts include localised flooding, difficult travel conditions, and poor visibility.
Other possible impacts include difficult travel conditions, some fallen trees, and wave overtopping.
More generally, Met Éireann says Tuesday night will see clear spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers will be heavy with a chance of hail. Temperatures will fall to lows of 3C to 7C.
Wednesday will be a "breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy with a chance of hail in the west and north".
Temperatures will hit between 9C and 12C as the showers become isolated by evening. Wednesday night will see outbreaks of rain over Munster and it will be cold with temperatures falling to 0C to 5C.
A period of low pressure will set in from Thursday, bringing mixed and at times unsettled weather.
Thursday will be wet and windy as the weather warnings come into effect. Rain will clear northeastwards early on Thursday night giving way to the clear spells in the east and north and showers elsewhere.
Some of the showers will be heavy, and may merge to longer spells of rain in parts of the west and northwest. Temperatures on Thursday will range from highs of 8C in the north to 14C in the south.
Heading into Friday and the weekend, Met Éireann says the details are uncertain.
"Current indications suggest a dry and bright start for most away from the northwest where showers will be gradually clearing northwards through the morning," Met Éireann said.
"It looks as though cloud will increase over southern and eastern parts of the country through the morning and afternoon with outbreaks of rain moving up from the south. Drier in the west and northwest with just a few showers."
The mixed and "changeable weather conditions" look set to continue into the weekend.
