Cork concert-goer apologises for conduct at event

Judge Mary Dorgan decided to put Kelly on a probation bond for 12 month on the public order charges.

A concert-goer who was put out of a Belters Only gig at Virgin Media Park in Cork insisted on getting back into the venue shouting: “I done nothing f***ing wrong to those assholes.”

Jamie Kelly (33), of 40 Tory Top Road, Cork, was prosecuted on three counts under the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, namely refusing to leave the scene of a disturbance when directed by a member of An Garda Síochána, being threatening and abusive, and being intoxicated to such an extent that he was a danger to himself or others.

Frank Buttimer solicitor said: “He apologises and expresses his remorse about his conduct in relation to the matter. He has been out of trouble for a long time. There is a cert from the Tabor group confirming his attendance at rehabilitation. He has gone through residential treatment since June 2024 when this occurred.”

The solicitor added that somewhat unusually there was a possibility that he may go on to participate in the counselling of others.

Judge Mary Dorgan decided to put Mr Kelly on a probation bond for 12 month on the public order charges.

The incident attended by Garda David Tobin occurred at an entrance to Virgin Media Park, Tramore Road, Togher, Cork, on June 21, 2024.

Sergeant John Dineen described the background to the matter at Cork District Court.

“Jamie Kelly had been escorted out of the park and was not being allowed back in. He was trying to gain entry. It was clear that he was intoxicated and unsteady on his feet. When Garda Tobin spoke to him the man told him he was kicked out of the concert and wanted to go back in. Garda Tobin directed him to leave the area.

“He informed the guard he was living around the corner and then shouted, ‘F*** off I’m going in now. Leave me alone. I done nothing f***ing wrong to those assholes’. He was arrested at 9.30pm on the night,” Sgt Dineen said.
