The entire country will remain under weather warnings on Friday as the worst effects of Storm Amy — the first named storm of the new storm season — hit the country.

A status yellow wind warning will be in place for the whole country from midday for a 12-hour period, with heavy rain forecast throughout the morning.

Met Éireann has warned that Storm Amy will bring “strong to near-gale-force and gusty south-westerly winds” across the country on Friday, warning of fallen trees and potential damage to power lines.

A status orange wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo will be in place from 2pm on Friday until 10pm.

The early effects of Storm Amy could be felt on Thursday, with heavy rain experienced across Kerry.

The Kingdom came under a status orange rain warning until 8pm last night, with Met Éireann warning of difficult driving conditions and possible flooding.

Tonight is expected to be very windy, with heavy rain coming in from the north tomorrow morning.
