Mathew Ginnifer, 30, of Cork Simon Community, was given the total sentence of five months by Judge Mary Dorgan at Cork District Court.

A five-month jail term was imposed on a 30-year-old man who admitted two counts of shoplifting in Cork city and also being in possession of a knife and a claw hammer at Oliver Plunkett Street.

Mathew Ginnifer, 30, of Cork Simon Community, was given the total sentence of five months by Judge Mary Dorgan at Cork District Court.

Sergeant John Kelleher said that the young man was searched and found to be in possession of the items at Oliver Plunkett Street on July 20 2024.

A box cutter knife with exposed blade and a claw hammer were found in his bag, Sgt Kelleher said.

On August 16 2025 at JD Sports, Patrick Street, Cork, he stole €291 worth of clothing.

On the same date at Lifestyle Sports, Patrick Street, he stole €185 worth of property.

Finally the defendant admitted being intoxicated to such an extent that he was a danger to himself or others at Grattan Street on July 18.
