Woman killed in Cork collision named locally

A 61-year-old woman who died following a single vehicle accident which occurred in the Dunkettle Ballinglanna area of Glanmire, Co Cork yesterday has been named locally as Veronica Hoen.

Ms Hoen was known for her work in arts education with the Irish Prison Service.
In 2016 she curated “Project 16 : Studying the Rising” which was exhibited at Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.
President Michael D Higgins praised Ms Hoen at the opening of the exhibition. He spoke of her diligent curating of the “beautiful creations” produced by the inmates of Irish prisons as a means to commemorate the Easter Rising of 1916.
Ms Hoen lived in Glanmire. In a tribute on the Glanmire Noticeboard page Veronica is described as having been “a bubbly, friendly, lovely lady who will be missed by many”.
The road where the incident occurred at 1.50pm yesterday was was closed for a technical examination. It has since reopened. Ms Hoen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 1.30 pm and 2.10 pm yesterday afternoon are asked to make this footage available to investigating officers.
