The trailer for Cork actor Cillian Murphy’s new movie Steve has been released by Netflix.

Steve is set for release in select cinemas on September 19, before being released on Netflix on October 3.

Set in the mid-1990s, the film sees the Oscar award winner play the role of a school head teacher, who is trying to help troubled students at a last-chance reform school.

However, at the same time, his character is also battling with his own mental health issues.

Steve is directed by Tim Mielants and written by Max Porter, with the film based on his Sunday Times bestseller Shy.

Along with Murphy, the film also stars Jay Lycurgo, Tracey Ullman, Simbi Ajikawo, and Emily Watson.

The European premiere of Steve will take place at the Arc Cinema in Cork on Saturday, September 13, as part of the programme for the Sounds from a Safe Harbour arts festival in the city.

The world premiere of the new film is set to take place at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) early next month.
