Works to be completed in Cork include Measure A4 — water conservation and leakage reduction and prevention — and Measure A6, the taking-in-charge of GWS and Group Sewerage Schemes.

A total of nine projects in Cork have been awarded more than €800,000 to deliver essential water and wastewater infrastructure.

Funding of €73.9m has been allocated for 291 projects across the country, under the Multi-Annual Rural Water Programme 2024–2026, with nine projects selected in Cork.

The Rural Water Programme, through exchequer funding, delivers improvements to private domestic water and wastewater services in areas of rural Ireland where there are no public Uisce Éireann water/wastewater services.

Under the scheme, the nine projects in Cork will be awarded a total of €803,347.

Projects awarded funding include Ballyguyroe/Tankardstown GWS (€34,850); Blackpool/Curraglass GWS (€1,785); Castlepark GWS (€12,750); Clonmult (Dungourney) GWS (€54,509); Graigue GWS (€8,925); Killally Ballinrush GWS (€27,459); Kilmore, Tooreehlahard, Skeheen and Coolowen GWSs (€25,755); Scarteen, Desert, Shanagh, Dromore, Ballyroberts and Lissacrue GWSs (€49,378); and Glenacarney GWS (€587,936).

Works to be completed in Cork include Measure A4 — water conservation and leakage reduction and prevention — and Measure A6, the taking-in-charge of GWS and Group Sewerage Schemes.

Fine Gael Cork North Central TD Colm Burke said that the completion of these projects will enable greater access to high-quality water and wastewater infrastructure, therefore addressing “a wide range of needs” in Cork.

“This announcement is great news for communities in Cork,” said Mr Burke.

“It’s so important that we protect our water sources and ensure the highest standards in water treatment.

“We must ensure that communities across Cork have the benefit of high-quality infrastructure and water services.”
