Cork Airport has been granted planning permission for 669 car parking spaces.

Cork City Council granted permission this week for development on a site to the south of the existing Holiday Blue Long-Term Car Park, at Cork Airport.

The development will consist of an extension to the existing car park, to provide an additional 669 long-term car parking spaces, of which 32 will be for persons with reduced mobility. They also granted permission for a new internal road layout with footpaths, a new gated pedestrian access, proposed maintenance access gate, and trolley bays, as well as the erection of CCTV equipment, fencing, electrical enclosure, lighting, and signage. Existing fencing, existing landscaping, an existing gated pedestrian access from Cork Airport Business Park, and an informal pathway will be removed under the plans.

Cork City Council granted conditional permission, saying the proposed development “would not seriously injure the residential or visual amenities of the area”.

It comes as all three car parks at the airport were sold out for the June Bank Holiday weekend earlier this summer.

Roy O’Driscoll, deputy managing director at Cork Airport told The Echo that the airport welcomed the decision and that: “Further updates on the progress of the extension and works will be communicated to all relevant stakeholders, including our customers, over the coming months.”
