Also nominated in the Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary Awards Climate Action, Active Travel and Sustainable Development category is the Ballyphehane Community Association.

The Ballyphehane Community Association operates and maintains a community centre, which is an integral part of the locality for all age groups.

Employing a staff of eight, with a volunteer staff of approximately 35, the Ballyphehane Community Association offers a wide and diverse range of services through the community centre. These include Meals on Wheels, an adult day care centre, bingo twice a week, a private gym, a large hall, meeting room facilities and more.

The Ballyphehane Community Association is a resource providing families with easy access to events, sporting activities, and general information about the community. They also help families to connect with the local community.

Meanwhile, Save Our Bride Otters is also among the nominees for the Climate Action, Active Travel and Sustainable Development accolade.

Save Our Bride Otters was established to protect the wildlife oasis in the River Bride, which is home to not just otters, but also trout, mallard, dippers, and heron, among many other species.

With the work of people in the group such as Chris Moody playing a crucial role, Save Our Bride Otters also monitor the River Bride and its vast biodiversity work on flood prevention through the removal of debris with the potential of blocking culverts downstream.

The group aims to protect the River Bride and its vast biodiversity for the community of Blackpool and also enhance public access to the River Bride.
