Munster Technological University’s (MTU) home economics and business programme has been recognised at the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Awards.

The programme has been announced as a recipient of the Disciplinary Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Assessment (Delta) Award for its submission on the theme of collaborative disciplinary practice.

The submission aimed to highlight the strengths of MTU’s multi-disciplinary teaching culture by showing how the programme brought staff across multiple departments and faculties together with students from the programme and a range of external stakeholders.

MTU president Professor Maggie Cusack said this achievement is “a reflection of the collaborative spirit that defines MTU”.

“The home economics and business programme team has shown what is possible when staff, students, and partners work together with a shared sense of purpose,” said Prof Cusack.

“Their commitment to excellence in teaching and learning enriches our university and offers each of our students the best possible university experience.

“I warmly congratulate the team on this thoroughly deserved national recognition.”

Niamh Lenihan of MTU’s Department of Management and Enterprise said the process leading up to this award was “very enjoyable”.

“It gave our team the opportunity to reflect deeply on our practices, articulate the impact of our work, and reaffirm our shared commitment to enhancing teaching and learning,” said Ms Lenihan.

“It was a very positive experience, and very much a team effort throughout.”

Faculty of Business dean Noel Murray said the team is “deeply honoured” to receive the Delta Award.

“This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to placing students at the heart of everything we do and embodies our university’s motto of succeeding together,” said Mr Murray.

“It celebrates the dedication of our staff, the curiosity and passion of our learners, and our shared belief that education should inspire, empower, and transform.”
