As if fans of the Munster Hurling Championship hadn’t enough to look forward to in advance of Sunday’s round-robin game at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh between Cork and Tipp, they will now be treated to a 30-minute set from the quintessentially Cork combo the Frank and Walters before the sliothar is thrown in.

Winners of the Cork Persons of the Year Award in 2024, the group have been invited to play for 30 minutes before the 4pm throw-in for this eagerly awaited rematch of the old Munster rivals and will entertain the 40,000+ hurling fans with a host of hits, such as After All, This Is Not a Song, and Tony Cochrane.

After All has enjoyed a new lease of life after being featured in the hit Cork-based television comedy drama, The Young Offenders, and the band is is one the most accomplished in alternative rock to emerge from the city.

Gates are opening at 2pm and every seat and standing space is expected to be filled in the ground, which has, as well as being a premier sports venue, hosted pop stars such as Ed Sheeran.

The announcement regarding the performance by The Frank and Walters was also accompanied by a warning from the Munster Council of the GAA and the gardaí for fans not to ignite flares or smoke bombs within the grounds.

Munster GAA operations manager John Brennan advised: “These devices are extremely dangerous, particularly when used in a confined space, such as a terrace with thousands of fellow supporters present.

“Flares can burn at a very high temperature and present a serious safety risk to those holding them and to those in the general vicinity, especially young children.

“Smoke bombs also burn at high temperatures and can be dangerous for those with asthma or breathing difficulties.

“Munster GAA ask that the small number of supporters who do bring these items to our games refrain from doing so.”

Patrons have again been asked not to enter the playing area after the match.
