Popular Cork restaurant Izz Cafe has picked up the ‘Best Middle Eastern’ prize at the annual Just Eat Awards.

Specialising in serving Palestinian food, the cafe is run by husband-and-wife Eman and Izzedeen (Izz) Alkarajeh.

Mr Alkarajeh runs front of house and managing their significant social media audience. While it is his wife and her food which plays a central role keeping their loyal following coming back.

Speaking to The Echo about winning the the award, Mr Alkarajeh said it was a recognition of all the hard work put in by the team at the Izz Cafe.

“It recognises the efforts we have been making over the last few years. It is a recognition for our hard work from our team and especially my wife, who is doing a great job in the kitchen orchestrating operations and insisting on providing the best quality food we aim to provide,” he said.

Thousands of the people cast their votes for this year’s Just Eat Awards, which celebrate the dedication, passion and excellence that the platform’s partners put into every order delivered to the doors of communities across Ireland.

Category winners for the Just Eat Awards were selected from a shortlist of more than 80 nominees, with the winners announced at a lunch event at award-winning Fallon & Byrne restaurant in Dublin.

This year’s ‘Best of Ireland’ award went to Galway based restaurant Handsome Burger.

Amanda Roche-Kelly, Just Eat Ireland managing director, congratulated Izz Cafe and all the category winners.
