Two bottles and some soft drinks with a total value of over €50 were stolen from Aldi in the Elysian building by a 49-year-old man “with a shocking record” and now he has been jailed for four months.
Sergeant John Kelleher said the accused and another man went into the store on October 4 last year and went to the off-licence section and stole the items. He was later identified on CCTV.
Stephen McNamara of St Vincent’s hostel, Anglesea Street, pleaded guilty to carrying out the theft at Cork District Court.
Frank Buttimer solicitor said the accused was engaging with Focus Ireland services in prison to try to arrange accommodation for him on his release from prison.
Judge Mary Dorgan described the record of Mr McNamara as shocking after being told that he had 183 convictions, including 42 for theft.
