A 21-year-old amassed a large number of convictions since he started offending in July and yesterday his solicitor described his “21 and homeless” note, which he left behind at a recent burglary, as a cry for help.

Christhian Bajoras left this note at the scene of a burglary at The Cube office building on Monahan Rd in Cork declaring, “21 and homeless”. He burgled the same premises twice — on January 27 and again the following night — entering as a trespasser through the underground car park, gaining access to the building and taking a PC monitor each time.

Solicitor Eddie Burke said the man had no previous convictions before July 2024 but had amassed a lot since then, culminating in the two burglaries at The Cube premises.

Judge Mary Dorgan imposed an overall sentence of 10 months with the last two months suspended at Cork District Court.

Sergeant John Dineen said that also on January 27, Bajoras entered Sano Pizza on Parnell Pl and asked if there was any leftover food. When the manager said they had none, he stole a €33 bottle of wine from the bar counter.

Sgt Dineen described a violent incident involving the accused on July 13, 2024, at Bishop St, Cork, where he ran at a taxi car, jumped up on the bonnet, and kicked and punched the windscreen.

When gardaí approached him, he shouted, “I will kill ye c***s, f*** off, I’ll kill ye”, where members of the public were present and he violently resisted arrest.

Similarly, on July 25, 2024, gardaí observed two men fighting and swinging punches at each other on Cornmarket St.

Bajoras, of no fixed address, was one of them and he then tried to punch a second man. He was generally aggressive with several members of the public and punched Garda Shane Hayes in the face.

Around this time in July, on Model Farm Rd, he was asleep on a footpath and when roused by gardaí, he called them “c***s and bastards”.

Also in July 2024, he stole three bottles of Bacardi from Tesco, Paul St, and stole seven bottles of vodka from Supervalu, Togher, across three different thefts in that month.

On October 27, 2024, at Lower Oliver Plunkett St, Cork, pepper spray had to be used to restrain and arrest him during a disturbance.

On November 18, he stole a jacket at JD Sports on Patrick St.

Two days later at Merchants Quay, he tried to strike Garda Michael Fehilly during a drunken disturbance.

After reading a probation report on the accused, Judge Mary Dorgan said: “He did his Leaving Cert. A lot of difficulties stem from his addiction. It is absolutely essential he addresses it. Otherwise it will continue unabated and no one wants that for him. Probation report makes very sad reading. It is up to him to deal with his addictions in prison. Childhood adversity has translated into his adulthood.”

But the judge expressed concern about the violent nature of the defendant’s outbursts and added: “I understand he had childhood adversity. But imagine a taxi man starting his day — and this man jumping up on his car and smashing his windscreen and putting it out of commission.”
