Man facing charges of carrying out alleged burglaries in Cork, Kilkenny and Waterford over Christmas period

A man, aged 24, accused of carrying out a series of burglaries at commercial premises in Kilkenny, Waterford, and Cork over Christmas was arrested and brought before Cork District Court.
Alexandru Covaci, of no fixed address in Midleton, was arrested and brought before Judge Mary Dorgan, who remanded him in custody to Lismore District Court, sitting in Dungarvan, on January 6.
He is charged with carrying out a burglary at The Playwright, 60 High St, Kilkenny, on Christmas Eve. He is accused of attempted theft at Tesco, High St, Kilkenny, on the same date.
He is also charged with burglary on December 22, 2024, at Reilly’s takeaway on Main St, Castlemartyr, Co Cork.
Mr Covaci is charged with carrying out a burglary on December 22 at Paul O’Connor Car Sales, Dungarvan Business Park, Dungarvan, Co Waterford.
He is also charged with burgling the Chernobyl charity shop, via Centra, River St, Cloyne, Co Cork, on December 21.
On December 20 he allegedly committed a burglary at The Enterprise Bar, Dungarvan.
Finally, on that same date, he is charged with burglary at Kelly’s pharmacy, The Plaza, Grattan Square, Waterford.
The defendant was represented at Cork District Court by solicitor Aidan Desmond, who said that a Romanian interpreter would be required for the court appearance on January 6.
