Quartet of famous faces conferred with honorary doctorates by University College Cork

The Cork founder of a charity which has raised more than €100m to help children affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster; a hugely successful rowing coach; an Oscar, Emmy, and Tony-winning actor, and a former member of the House of Lords and multi-award-winning filmmaker have all been conferred with honorary doctorates at University College Cork.

Adi Roche, founder and CEO of Chernobyl Children International — a humanitarian organisation that has delivered more than €108m in medical and aid relief to the people affected by the Chernobyl disaster — has been awarded a Doctor of Arts.

Dominic Casey, Rowing Ireland’s lightweight coach, has been awarded a Doctor of Education. A former champion sculler and highly successful rowing coach, his coaching success includes international, European, World, and Olympic medals.

Award-winning actor Jeremy Irons has been awarded a Doctor of Arts degree. A distinguished actor known for his sophisticated performances and commanding presence, his career has spanned seven decades.

David Puttnam was also awarded a Doctor of Arts degree.

He is a renowned film producer and philanthropist, celebrated for his pivotal role in producing award-winning films over a 30-year career.
