The 69th Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) will take place across Cork city and county next month.

The festival, which will run from Thursday, November 7, to Sunday, November 17, will open with Vatican drama Conclave, while documentary Blue Road: The Edna O'Brien Story will be shown on November 10.

The full programme, showcasing the best in world and Irish cinema, will be announced on Tuesday, October 15.

The multiple venues will include the Everyman, the Triskel, and a welcome return to The ARC Cinema.

The festival supports up-and-coming Irish and international filmmakers.

Excellence

For 69 years, the festival has celebrated excellence in filmmaking, championing new voices and established filmmakers through its prestigious, world-class awards, including three Oscar-qualifying prizes and its Best New Irish Feature Award, supported by the Irish Examiner.

Cork International Film Festival director and CEO, Fiona Clark, said: “Conclave is a star-studded adaptation of Robert Harris’s bestselling novel of the same name, a compelling political drama and visually cinematic treat, so fitting for our opening gala at the Everyman on November 7.

“We are also thrilled to premiere as our Irish gala, Sinéad O’Shea’s Blue Road: The Edna O’Brien Story, on Sunday, November 10, a thoughtful documentary that is a testament to the literary force that was Edna O’Brien.

“These films are indicative of the exciting range of premieres that CIFF boasts, and the wealth of Irish and international filmmaking talent that our 69th year will be showcasing.”

Ms Clark also welcomed the festival’s new director of programming, Aurélie Godet, who brings her experience from Berlinale and Locarno to Cork.

Tickets for Conclave on November 7 and Blue Road: The Edna O’Brien Story on November 10 are on sale now at https://corkfilmfest.org/.
