Supt. Gary McPolin said the “major operation” came as a response to “ongoing feuds” and was a result of an “intelligence-led operation”.

A senior Garda Superintendent has vowed that his team “will go to the ends of the Earth” to see those involved in recent violence in North Cork face justice.

“The perpetrators… have created a lot of angst and fear among the people, but it’s their turn now...We’re not finished with them at all yet,” he said.

Superintendent Gary McPolin was speaking after a major policing operation, involving more than 60 gardaí, led to the seizure of firearms, ammunition, and suspected drugs in Cork yesterday. Three men were arrested.

Supt McPolin said the “major operation” came as a response to “ongoing feuds” and was a result of an “intelligence-led operation”.

The operation was conducted by gardaí in Mallow and Charleville as part of ongoing investigations into recent criminal damage and violent disorder incidents in North Cork.

The operation included members of the Armed Support Unit, the Air Support Unit, Cork County Serious Crime Unit, Limerick County Serious Crime Unit, the Divisional Search Unit, members from the Cork North West Community Engagement area, the Dog Unit, and the Scenes of Crime Unit.

As part of the operation, gardaí arrested three men and seized three firearms along with ammunition.

These will be subject to further analysis by the ballistics section of the Garda Technical Bureau.

A quantity of suspected Xanax tablets was also seized, which will undergo further analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

Three men — one aged in his 60s, another in his 30s, and a third in his 20s — were arrested and are currently detained at a Garda station within the southern region.

Garda investigations are ongoing.

Supt McPolin said the operation was co-ordinated from Mallow by himself, along with Detective Superintendent Joe Moore, led by Detective Inspector John O’Connell and Detective Sergeant Micheal O’Regan.

He vowed that he and his team would stop at nothing to bring perpetrators of crimes in the area to justice.

“The people of Cork North, including the people of Charleville, they’ve had to put up with a lot of very negative press about where they live and it’s down to a small minority engaging in this, what I would call, mindless feud,” said Supt McPolin.

“The perpetrators… have created a lot of angst and fear among the people, but it’s their turn now to fear and to have angst in relation to their behaviour. We’re not finished with them at all yet.

“My team and I will go to the ends of the Earth to bring these people before the courts, to face justice, and to pay for their ill deeds that they’ve behaved in.

“I’d like to thank the assistance of the general public.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank my members for their professionalism and very thorough work under very difficult circumstances.”
