All roads will lead to Cork this October bank holiday weekend, as the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival returns for the 46th year.
The five-day festival is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors to Cork, bringing with them an estimated €45m boost to the local economy.
Green Party councillor Dan Boyle, Lord Mayor of Cork, emphasised the festival’s economic impact, saying: “The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival continues to boost our local economy while establishing Cork as a global hub for music and culture.
“It’s an inclusive celebration, bringing world-class talent to our city.”
At last night’s programme launch, organisers announced a number of additional acts who will take to Cork stages next month.
Fans can now look forward to performances from more artists including: pioneers of alternative hip-hop from New York, De La Soul; dynamic Chicago-based brass band Hypnotic Brass Ensemble; and The X Collective and friends, Irish artists who combine elements of soul, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B.
These acts and more join an already star-studded line-up that includes West Africa’s legendary dance band Orchestra Baobab, and Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, who played at last week’s Paralympic closing ceremony.
Oasis fans who missed the chance to see the Gallagher brothers reunite, will be treated to a show by the definitive Oasis tribute, Mad Ferret. Tickets for the City Hall gig are available now for €25 — with no risk of dynamic pricing.
At the launch at Cyprus Avenue, festival director Mark Murphy said: “This year’s line-up is a blend of internationally renowned acts and local talent, showcasing the best of jazz across a wide range of venues, including new additions like The Kino and Cork School of Music.
“The expanded Guinness music trail will provide a platform for local talent and create an unforgettable experience for festival-goers.”
The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival takes place from Thursday, October 24, to Monday, October 28.
