Cork City Council is set to appoint Valerie O’Sullivan as chief executive in the coming weeks, The Echo understands.

Ms O’Sullivan currently serves as the divisional manager for South Cork with Cork County Council and has previously acted as CEO of Cork County Council.

She has emerged as the preferred candidate as part of a recruitment process overseen by the Public Appointments Service and her name is expected to be put forward to city councillors for ratification in the coming weeks.

The job, which offers an annual salary of €182,280, will see the successful candidate remain in office for a term of seven years with the option of a three-year extension.

In this position, Ms O’Sullivan would have responsibility for the day-to-day management of the local authority which currently employs more than 1,600 people.

The CEO will also oversee the city’s annual budget, advise elected members in the determination of policy and in relation to the exercise of reserved functions while, in turn, implementing decisions made by them.
