A man arrested on Friday night by gardaí investigating a number of incidents in Cork city has been released from custody. 

Gardaí say they continue to investigate an incident of criminal damage at a property in the Shanakiel area of Cork at approximately 5.40pm on Friday evening and a road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 6.10pm on the Churchfield Road. 

A male pedestrian (60s) was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment following the collision where his condition was described as serious.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Friday evening and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in the Southern Region.

He was released on Saturday. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to these incidents or road users with video footage to contact them.
