Green Party set to run two candidates in Cork city in next general election

In Cork South Central, the party has chosen Dr Monica Oikeh to be its general-election candidate, while in Cork North Central, city councillor Oliver Moran will seek election.

The Green Party in Cork is to run a candidate in each of the two city constituencies at the next general election.

In Cork South Central, the party has chosen Dr Monica Oikeh to be its general-election candidate, while in Cork North Central, city councillor Oliver Moran will seek election.

Dr Oikeh is originally from Nigeria and has been living in Ireland for almost 20 years.

A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Dr Oikeh has been living and working in the Cork South Central constituency for 10 years, and she is a general practitioner in the Douglas and Carrigaline areas.

Dr Oikeh said that she would be working hard in the constituency to improve access to health facilities, provide affordable and energy-efficient housing, increase walking and cycling infrastructure, and increase the provision of public transport routes and the frequency of services.

“My priority, for my constituency, is to secure improved access to general health services, mental health services, disability services and geriatric services,” she said.

“I also want to see increased investment in the infrastructure needed to meet our growing population in Cork South Central.”

Mr Moran has been a city councillor in Cork City North East since 2019, and he was re-elected in June’s local elections.

“More than any other party, the Green Party is clear on its agenda and in delivering on it,” he said.

“Transport, housing, health are everyday issues and Green issues.

“I’ve been clear on those in the city, I will be clear on them outside of the city as well.”
