The advisory from Cork County Council warns that a do not swim notice has been issued in the interest of public health due to high levels of bacteria in the water.

“Due to high levels of bacteria in the bathing water, in the interest of public health, a Prohibition Notice (Not to Swim) has been issued at the Warren Beach, in consultation with the HSE. Further microbiological tests are being carried out today,” Cork County Council published on its website.

In response to a query from The Echo, a spokesperson for the local authority confirmed "an ecoli noncompliance has been detected" at the popular beach.

"As advised a further water sample has been taken today – we’re awaiting the results," the spokesperson added.

Cork County Council's Beachguards took to social media to advise that the water will be routinely tested and urged people to consider swimming at Tragumna, Owenahincha or Inchydoney beaches instead of the Warren.
