Danny McSorley hat-trick inspires Carrigaline to big win over Avondale in the U19 league one game

Carrigaline United put on a five start performance when they defeated Avondale United by five goals to nil in a Daly Industrial Supplies U19 League 1 encounter at Avondale Park.

The result was rather flattering for Carrig, because Avondale played very well in large periods of the game, however, Carrigaline were a lot more clinical in front of goal and even they could have added to the score line only for the heroic’s from Dale’s goalkeeper Harry Walsh, who pulled off some superb saves throughout the game.

It was the visitors, Carrigaline who held a two goal advantage at half time from the boot of their captain Danny McSorley.

They increased their lead 3-0 in the 64th minute through Alex O’Connell and then McSorley grabbed his hat-trick six minutes later for Carrig to lead 4-0. 

O’Connell then grabbed his second goal of the game from the penalty spot deep into injury time for the visitors to take all three points.

Carrig could have taken the lead in the opening two minutes when McSorley raced on to a through ball from O’Connell, however, Walsh in the Dale’s goal raced off his line to make a brave save at his feet. 

Avondale were living dangerously at the back and when McSorley picked up a loose ball on the edge of the Dale’s box, his powerful effort crashed off the post. 

There was no surprise when Carrig took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute, David Scannell played a delightful ball over the top for McSorley and he finished with a slimline finish. 

The Dale’s came close to levelling the game five minutes later, Stan Topkarov whipped in a dangerous cross and when Brooklynz Graciano’s firm header was heading for the far corner of the net, the Carrig goalkeeper Ronan McGrath got down well to push his effort around the post. 

Carrig went two goals up McSorley picked up another loose ball in the Dale’s box and he powered effort into the roof of the net. 

The Dale’s came agonisingly close to reducing the deficit just before half time when Sean McNamee cut in from the right, however, his effort was superbly pushed around the post by McGrath.

The Dale’s started the second half brightly when McNamee danced his way into the Carrig box in the 57th minute, it took a magnificent last ditch tackle by Sean O’Neill to clear the danger for his team. 

In soccer the game is all about taking your chances and Carrig proved this seven minutes later, McSorley tuned provider this time when he found O’Connell on the edge of the Dale’s box and he curled his effort into the far corner of the net to give his side a three goal lead against the run of play. 

To say that Avondale were living dangerous at the back was a understatement because McSorley grabbed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, he picked up another loose ball on the edge of the box and he rifled his effort into the roof of the net for the visitors to lead 4-0. 

To be honest, the Dale’s didn’t deserve to trail by four goals, however, they contributed to three of those goals with some stray passing options at the back. 

In injury time things got worse for the home side when O’Connell was upended in the box and penalty was awarded, he dusted himself down to dispatch the spot kick that saw Carrig win out five nil.
