Significant increase in number of Cork city residents registered to vote in upcoming local elections

A total of 158,902 people in Cork city are registered to vote in the upcoming local elections – an increase of approximately 10,000 electors since last year.
Polling takes place on Friday, June 7 and there are five electoral areas of the city with 31 members set to be elected to Cork City Council.
Cork City Council said that polling information cards are still being delivered across the city and the expectation is that the last of these should be delivered by An Post by June 3.
The local authority advised that polling cards are issued for information purposes only and are not required to vote.
All electors should bring some form of ID with them to their polling station as they may be required to prove evidence of identity.
If you do not receive your polling card, you can go online ( www.checktheregister.ie) to see if you are registered to vote and check where your polling station is.
Alternatively, the city council said people may ring the franchise section in Cork City Council for this information (021 4924000).
In total, close to 200 candidates in Cork city and county are vying for election in the upcoming local elections.
In the city, a total of 76 candidates have been officially nominated - a 7% decrease on the numbers declared in 2019.
Meanwhile, Cork County Council has seen a 14% overall uptick in the number of candidates this year, with 122 hopefuls seeking election.
