A FOURTH-generation showman has announced his intention to run in the upcoming local elections.

Brendan Piper, of Piper’s Fun Fair, is contesting the elections as an independent candidate for the Bandon-Kinsale local electoral area.

He said his campaign is centred around “being a voice for the people once and for all”.

Mr Piper comes from the renowned Piper family, well-known in Kinsale since 1932.

In his own words, he is a proud father and family man, who is local to the area, and is committed to serving the district to the best of his ability.

Speaking to The Echo on his decision to run in June, Mr Piper said: “I’ve been pondering on it, and I said I’d throw my hat into the ring.

“I have six topics that are important to me, which are autism awareness and action, public toilets, housing, road infrastructure, access to South Doc, and finally, bringing Piper’s Fun Fair back to Kinsale,” he said. “I am determined, hard-working and dedicated, and I have a lifelong commitment to Kinsale. I want to work for those who want change.”

Mr Piper said that while Piper's is an issue he wants to address "there are other priorities too."

“It’s about helping people who need a voice, and hopefully that voice will be me."

“I’m on the ground, I see it, I hear it, I’m talking to people. Being a voice for the people once and for all, and that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
