PEOPLE Before Profit representative Rola Abu Zeid O’Neill will launch her East Cork local-election campaign at The Commodore Hotel in Cobh tonight at 7pm.

Ms Abu Zeid O’Neill and Cian Prendiville, European election candidate, will discuss housing, schools, childcare, rural roads, and health.

Ms Abu Zeid O’Neill said: “We need spokespeople who will address the issues that marginalised people are experiencing. We want to give a voice to the voiceless, and be the change that we want to see.

“In short, we need a People Before Profit candidate representing East Cork to give us a public platform to highlight the issues that are not being represented in mainstream politics.”

Ms Abu Zeid O’Neill is known for her involvement with the Cork Palestine Solidarity Campaign (CPSC) protests, which she has led and where she has spoken.

Born in Nazareth, Ms Abu Zeid O’Neill moved to Ireland in 2007. Since then, she has completed a PhD and has taught for 12 years at University College Cork.

She is also a community worker who supports women, minority groups, migrants, and refugees in Cork city and county.

Her decision to run for local elections, on behalf of People Before Profit, reflects “her commitment to a better future for her children, the coming generations, and in support of those who care about the diversity of Ireland”.
